Russell has over thirty years of offshore finance experience in the Cayman Islands. He is one of the founders of Marbury. Prior to establishing Marbury, he served as Head of Finance and Head of Cayman Islands Operations for Man Group (formerly GLG Partners) from 2006 to 2013, where he sat as a director on the boards of numerous Man Group hedge funds and corporate entities. In this role, Russell was responsible for audit and financial reporting across Man Group’s full range of hedge funds, and held direct responsibility for the Cayman Islands physical presence, fund operational tax, fund budgeting, and fund liquidations.

Before joining Man Group, Russell was Financial Controller at Banco Bradesco SA in Grand Cayman, where he oversaw the accounting and securities departments responsible for the back-office functions of over US $8 billion in fixed income assets and related hedging instruments. Earlier in his career, he worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Cayman Islands.

Russell has been a resident of the Cayman Islands since 1997 and holds Caymanian status.Russell has extensive experience working with some of the largest hedge fund and private equity managers in the world, across the full spectrum of alternative investment strategies. He has deep expertise in the accounting, legal, compliance, and regulatory matters affecting the alternative investment fund industry, and works proactively with fund service providers to strengthen corporate governance frameworks for hedge fund clients. Russell is a registered director with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) under the Directors Registration and Licensing Act (as amended).

• Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW).
• Elected by peers to the AIMA Global Council for three consecutive terms (2020–2022, 2022–2024, and 2024–2026). Chair of the AIMA audit committee.
• Member of the Cayman Islands Directors Association (CIDA).
• Past President of the CFA Society of the Cayman Islands (CFASCI).
• Past Chairman of Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) Cayman.
• BSc Economics from Southampton University (1992).
